172 ರನ್‌ಗಳ ಕಠಿಣ ಸವಾಲನ್ನು ಹೊತ್ತ ಹುಬ್ಬಳ್ಳಿ ಟೈಗರ್ಸ್‌ ಮೊಹಮ್ಮದ್‌ ತಾಹ (71) ಹಾಗೂ ತುಷಾರ್‌ ಸಿಂಗ್‌ (25) ಅವರ ಸ್ಪೋಟಕ ಬ್ಯಾಟಿಂಗ್‌ ನೆರವಿನಿಂದ ಒಂದು ಹಂತದಲ್ಲಿ ಸುಲಭ ಜಯ ಗಳಿಸುವ ಲಕ್ಷಣ ತೋರಿತ್ತು, ಆದರೆ ಕೊನೆಯ ಕ್ಷಣದಲ್ಲಿ ಅಬ್ಬರದ ಆಟ ಪ್ರದರ್ಶಿಸುತ್ತಿದ್ದ ನಾಯಕ ಅಭಿಮನ್ಯು ಮಿಥುನ್‌ ರನೌಟ್‌ ಬಲಿಯಾಗುದರೊಂದಿಗೆ ತಂಡ ವೀರೋಚಿತ ಸೋಲನುಭವಿಸಿತು. ಅಂತಿಮವಾಗಿ ಟೈಗರ್ಸ್‌ 7 ವಿಕೆಟ್‌ ನಷ್ಟಕ್ಕೆ 169 ರನ್‌ ಗಳಿಸಿತು.
ಹುಬ್ಬಳ್ಳಿಗೆ 172 ರನ್‌ಗಳ ಕಠಿಣ ಸವಾಲು:
ಶಿವಕುಮಾರ್‌ ರಕ್ಷಿತ್‌ (50) ಹಾಗೂ ಅನಿರುಧ್‌ ಜೋಶಿ (33) ಅವರ ಆಕರ್ಷಕ ಬ್ಯಾಟಿಂಗ್‌ ನೆರವಿನಿಂದ ಬೆಂಗಳೂರು ಬ್ಲಾಸ್ಟರ್ಸ್‌ ತಂಡ 171 ರನ್‌ ದಾಖಲಿಸಿ ಎದರಾಳಿ ಹುಬ್ಬಳ್ಳಿ ಟೈಗರ್ಸ್‌ಗೆ 172 ರನ್‌ಗಳ ಕಠಿಣ ಸವಾಲು ನೀಡಿದೆ. ಅಗ್ರಸ್ಥಾವನ್ನು ಕಾಯ್ದುಕೊಳ್ಳಲು ಬೆಂಗಳೂರು ತಂಡಕ್ಕೆ ಈ ಜಯ ಮುಖ್ಯವಾಗಿದ್ದರೆ ಅಂತಿಮ ನಾಲ್ಕರಲ್ಲಿ ಸ್ಥಾನ ಭದ್ರಪಡಿಸಿಕೊಳ್ಳಲು ಹುಬ್ಬಳ್ಳಿ ಟೈಗರ್ಸ್‌ಗೆ ಇಲ್ಲಿ ಗೆಲ್ಲುವುದು ಅನಿವಾರ್ಯವಾಗಿದೆ. ಹುಬ್ಬಳ್ಳಿ ನಾಳೆ ಲೀಗ್‌ ಹಂತದ ಕೊನೆಯ ಪಂದ್ಯವನ್ನಾಡಲಿದೆ.
ಟಾಸ್‌ ಗೆದ್ದು ಫೀಲ್ಡಿಂಗ್‌ ಆಯ್ದುಕೊಂಡ ಹುಬ್ಬಳ್ಳಿ ಟೈಗರ್ಸ್‌ ಬಲಿಷ್ಠ ಹುಬ್ಬಳ್ಳಿ ಟೈಗರ್ಸ್‌ನ ಆರಂಭಿಕ ಆಟಗಾರರನ್ನು ಪೆವಿಲಿಯನ್‌ಗೆ ಅಟ್ಟುವಲ್ಲಿ ಯಶಸ್ವಿಯಾಯಿತು. ನಾಯಕ ಮಯಾಂಕ್‌ ಅಗರ್ವಾಲ್‌ ಕೇವಲ 12 ರನ್‌ ಗಳಿಸಿ ಕೌಶಿಕ್‌ಗೆ ವಿಕೆಟ್‌ ಒಪ್ಪಿಸಿದ್ದು, ಟೈಗರ್ಸ್‌ ಪಡೆಗೆ ಆರಂಭಿಕ ನೆಮ್ಮದಿಯಾಗಿತ್ತು. ಆದರೆ ಕುಶ್‌ ಮರಾಠೆ (23) ಹಾಗೂ ಶಿವಕುಮಾರ್‌ ರಕ್ಷಿತ್‌ 67 ರನ್‌ಗಳ ಜೊತೆಯಾಟವಾಡಿ ಓವರ್‌ಗೆ ಸರಾಸರಿ 8 ರನ್‌ ಕಾಯ್ದುಕೊಂಡರು. ರಕ್ಷಿತ್‌ ಇನ್ನಿಂಗ್ಸ್‌ನಲ್ಲಿ 5 ಬೌಂಡರಿ ಹಾಗೂ 2 ಸಿಕ್ಸರ್‌ ಸೇರಿತ್ತು. ಯಾವಾಗಲೂ ಅಬ್ಬರದ ಆಟಕ್ಕೆ ಮನಮಾಡುವ ಅನಿರುಧ್‌ ಜೋಶಿ ಪ್ರತಿಯೊಂದು ಪಂದ್ಯದಲ್ಲೂ ತಮ್ಮದೇ ಛಾಪು ಮೂಡಿಸಿದ್ದಾರೆ. ಕೇವಲ 19 ಎಸೆತಗಳನ್ನು ಎದುರಿಸಿ, 4 ಬೌಂಡರಿ ಹಾಗೂ 1 ಸಿಕ್ಸರ್‌ ನೆರವಿನಿಂದ 33 ರನ್‌ ಗಳಿಸಿ ತಂಡದ ಬೃಹತ್‌ ಮೊತ್ತಕ್ಕೆ ಕಾರಣಾದರು.
ಬೆಂಗಳೂರು ಬ್ಲಾಸ್ಟರ್ಸ್‌ ಪರ ಶರಣ್‌ ಗೌಡ್‌ 24ಕ್ಕೆ 3 ಹಾಗೂ ಬಿ.ಯು. ಶಿವಕುಮಾರ್‌ 33ಕ್ಕೆ 2 ವಿಕೆಟ್‌ ಗಳಿಸಿದರು.

Bengaluru, 21st August: Hot favourites Bengaluru Blasters edged out a battling Hubli Tigers in a last-ball thriller close to midnight on Sunday to keep the battle for the final playoff spot alive and kicking in the Maharaja Trophy T20 Tournament at the Chinnaswamy Stadium.
A victory for Hubli Tigers would have moved them to 10 points from nine matches, same as the Mysore Warriors, who earlier lost to Gulbarga Mystics, and enhanced their chances of a playoff berth with a match in hand.
The race to the playoffs thus became clear late on Sunday night after all but two matches of the preliminary stage to be played on Monday.
Bengaluru Blasters (14 points), Gulbarga Mystics (12) and Mysore Warriors (10) have already booked a berth in the playoffs, the Mystics with a match in hand, while Shivamogga Strikers are already out of contention.
The Tigers and Mangalore United are on eight points each with a match in hand, the last of the qualifying stage to be played on Monday at 7pm.
The winner of this match will join the Warriors in the playoffs while it will be heartbreaking for the losers.
Chasing a stiff 172 for victory, the Tigers fought true to their names with Mohammed Taha leading the way. The 28-year-old gritty batsmen played with rare courage and conviction for a fine 71 which included five fours and five sixes.
But needing 40 of 20 balls, Taha stepped out to T Pradeep and managed only to offer a return catch. But the crucial dismissal at a crunch stage was not without drama as the umpires had to view replays multiple times to see if the ball was above the waist of the batsman.
After some suspense, third umpire Sadanand Vishwanath ruled the ball legal and gave Taha the marching orders.
But the Tigers continued to wage a brave battle with 23 runs needed of the last two overs as Tushar Singh and Abhimanyu Mithun did some bold hitting.
Though Mithun (15, 9 balls, 2 fours) was run out of the last ball of the 19th over, Tushar (25, 16 balls, 1 four, 2 sixes) kept striking tellingly hitting a six and four of the second and third deliveries of the last over. But he was dismissed of the next ball, caught in the deep, and that finally dashed their hopes.
Earlier, the Blasters batted with a lot of flair and freedom with Shivkumar Rakshith leading the way with a fine half century (30 balls, 5 fours, 2 sixes).
The wicket-keeper batsman added 67 runs for the third wicket with Kush Marathe (23, 25 balls, 2 fours) after a faltering start with Blasters losing two wickets, including that of captain Mayank Agarwal, by the fourth over.
For the Tigers, Sharan Goud claimed three wickets for 24 runs while B U Shiva Kumar chipped in with two for 33.
